Jiwon Yoo, Ph.D.
Welcome to my practice. I’m a licensed psychologist providing psychotherapy and psychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults in New York and New Jersey, as well as in the 42 and counting PSYPACT participating states. To see if your state is included, please visit the official PSYPACT map.
Coming to the United States as a teen from South Korea, I understand firsthand the challenges and growth that come with adjusting to a new culture and navigating questions of identity. That personal journey has shaped my passion for supporting individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Over the years, I’ve focused my work on serving immigrant communities - especially Asian American families - through therapy that honors both their strengths and their unique experiences. At Olive Street Center, my goal is to offer a welcoming space where children and families of all backgrounds can feel seen, supported, and empowered through culturally sensitive care and community-based support.
Therapeutic Approach:
In my work, I integrate relational and family systems perspectives, which means I pay close attention to how your relationships shape your experiences and emotional well-being. I also consider how family history, upbringing, and intergenerational patterns influence your current challenges and strengths.
Alongside this foundation, I use a range of evidence-based approaches, including Parent Management Training (PMT), Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), and strategies drawn from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Just as importantly, I approach every client with a multicultural lens. I remain mindful of how factors such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and other cultural influences shape each person’s experiences, values, and identity.
Specialization:
Early childhood behavioral issues
Emotion regulation issues
Parenting issues
ADHD
Trauma

** I am bilingual and have professional proficiency in Korean.
Education & Training:
Throughout my training, I had the privilege of working in diverse clinical settings, including schools, hospitals, college counseling centers, and community clinics. I provided individual, family, and group therapy, conducted neuropsychological evaluations, and led psychoeducational workshops for clients of all ages. Previously, I worked as a supervising psychologist at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where I trained doctoral-level trainees and specialized in forensic psychosocial evaluations and trauma-focused therapy for children affected by abuse and maltreatment.
